Franchise -Derby Case Study

Franchisee - Asghar Tayub

Having worked previously in Finance and in IT Project Management, a move into my own business in retail was always going to be a difficult decision. This is the reason I first looked into the idea of investing in a Franchise to benefit from the experience of others who had built a proven model and system. After attending the Franchise exhibition in 2002 at the NEC in Birmingham the thought of selling carpets was the last thing on my mind! After spending some time researching various opportunities I came back to the “United” stand as it offered a greater potential of profit then most business models I had seen.

Eight years and  many months later I am humbled by the success we have had at United Carpets in Derby. The United Carpets model of selling value for money flooring with an emphasis on both service and standards have allowed me to aggressively gain market share in my local area. We have now become ingrained in the local community and are recognised as a major flooring retailer thanks to primarily the growth in the brand and support from the head office team, as well as building a great team of staff led by “owner” enthusiasm!

As I started the business at the age of 26 there were many concerns I had due to the fact that I had no flooring industry experience and no experience in actually running a business. I believe that this Franchisor does respond with support whenever required for those individuals who show the main qualities of being ambitious, proactive, positive and driven about their business. I would definitely always choose the same opportunity again as it has allowed me to be part of a successful business and enjoy the fruits of my hard work.
