When your bed is no longer providing the support and comfort it should, its time for a change – don’t let this affect the quality of your sleep. Beds don’t last forever and the life span is affected by many factors, such as how often it is used. Look out for signs such as waking up with aches and pains, are you sleeping for as long as you used to? Your mattress shows signs of wear and tear! If you have one or more of these it is time to upgrade. A new bed may not be a cure for all life’s stresses but it certainly will help you get a good night sleep, leaving you full of energy to tackle the day ahead. There is no such thing as a perfect bed for everyone – but here at United Carpets and Beds we have a wide selection for you to choose from, so hopefully we’ll have the perfect bed for you.
Type – What would you prefer – consider your current bed – what would you change, would you like it softer or firmer? Use this a guide to buying your new bed?
Price – No need to shop around for price, all our beds are exclusive to United Carpets and Beds and are all of the highest quality at the lowest prices. There is never a truer saying than “you get what you pay for” but at United Carpets, what you get is a quality bed, whether you choose our low priced Encore Divan with Luxury or Orthopaedic Mattress or our one of the sumptuous luxury pillow top Divans your guaranteed a good nights sleep.
Size – One of the most common sleep complaints is being disturbed by a sleeping partner. With a larger bed you are less likely to be disturbed, all our divan beds are upgradeable taking your bed from 4’6’’ (Double) to a 5’ (King) or even 6’ (Super King) from only £50. This is also available on most of the framed beds.

Open coil or open sprung
This is the most widely used option, springs are arranged in rows and connected to one another, top and bottom, by a spiral helical wire with an outer rod strengthening the perimeter. There are usually 325 coils in a 5’ (king) size mattress but many of our mattresses have more. These mattresses all come in a choice of tensions.
Pocket Spring
Pocket springs are small, softer springs housed in individual pockets, allowing them to work independently of another, profiling to the body shape to prevent pressure points. Independent support means that there is little or no transmission of movement from one sleeping partner to another.
Interior sprung mattresses use a wide variety of filling to create different properties and comfort options, as well as affecting price. Fillings are chosen for their resilience, durability and flexibility. At United Carpets and Beds, we use a hypoallergenic filling in most of our mattresses, which is a synthetic material with good recovery properties and anti allergenic benefits.
Memory Foam
Originally developed by NASA memory foam was intended as a way of combating the effects of ‘G’ force with its ability to evenly distribute pressure. Memory foam is now more widely found within mattresses, pillows and mattress toppers. Memory foam makes an ideal sleeping platform as it continually reacts and adjusts to your body and moulds to make the perfect contours to enable you to have the best nights sleep possible. ‘John Paul Divine’ has designed a range of memory foam mattresses and Divan sets exclusively for United Carpets and Beds, click here to view our wide range.
Have a cool nights sleep with Coolmax and Smartcell Technology
Tossing and turning, throwing away the covers endlessly trying to cool down, sound familiar? Our Coolmax and Smartcell mattresses feature a revolutionary fabric, which works hard to keep you cool throughout the night. This technology has been tried and tested successfully in sports clothing for many years and now our exclusive beds designer ‘John Paul Divine’ has started using this revolutionary fabric in these unique mattresses. The feature works by storing heat in its cell system and converting it to make a cool sleep surface so you get an uninterrupted sleep and wake up feeling refreshed for the day ahead.
The Divan base is still the UK’s most popular choice, essentially a divan is an upholstered box, fitted with castors and all are available with drawer options for handy storage. There are three main types of divan:
Sprung edge divans feature a complete open coil or pocket spring unit mounted on a frame. Considered the most luxurious option, they provide even support across the whole mattress and act like a giant shock absorber, increasing the mattress’s durability.
Solid or platform top divans have a rigid, non-sprung top panel, often made from hardboard. Beds with these bases are generally firmer, as well as cheaper than beds with sprung bases.
Firm edge divans generally feature a smaller number of larger, heavy duty springs within a rigid, wooden sided frame.

This increasing popular choice of bed are available in many modern and traditional styles using a range of materials such as wood, metal and faux leather. To support the mattress all our beds come with either wooden sprung slated or flat slated bases. To ensure a long life for your mattress we ensure the highest quality slates, spaced evenly and close together.
Quality sleep is essential for a child’s growth and development. When a child is sleeping their bodies release a growth hormone which encourages normal growth and bodily development, a good night’s sleep gets your child ready for the day ahead. We’re not guaranteeing young Einstein’s but it could get the cogs moving that early morning spelling test.

The bed a child sleeps in is important. A new bed with a supportive mattress is a must for a growing child; an old lumpy, mattress is not likely to lead to your child having quality sleep. Recent research has shown that toddlers can grow as much as 1.5cm overnight (St Thomas’s Hospital, London, 1997) As children get older, this rate reduces, but most young people are still growing into their late teens and even into their early twenties. So a bed which is large enough and supportive enough is as important to a 17 year old as a 7 year old. An unsupportive bed can result in aches and pains in early adult life and back problems. United Carpets and Beds take these concerns very seriously and have a range of beds and mattresses to help your child get the best start in life at affordable prices.
